GoHighLevel Alternatives 2026 (Do You Even Need Telecom?)

· Tool Reviews
Prices and terms last verified September 14, 2026.

It depends on one question: do you need texts and calls inside the platform? Only GoHighLevel has built-in calling, at $97 to $497 plus metered usage. Kartra bundles SMS flat-rate from $59. systeme.io runs $0 to $97 with no telecom. ClickFunnels starts at $97 with none either.

GoHighLevel alternatives 2026 - the telecom question that decides whether you need GoHighLevel at all

Looking for a GoHighLevel alternative because the bill came in higher than you expected?

That’s the whole article, right there. Everything below is me showing my work.

Full disclosure: I’m a GoHighLevel affiliate and I’m also a systeme.io affiliate, and those two compete directly. Both companies in this comparison can pay me. I’m about to tell most of you to buy the cheaper one, which pays me less. Judge the rest of the page knowing that. Full disclosure

Why Most GoHighLevel Alternatives Lists Are Useless

I went and watched the alternatives videos on YouTube before writing this. Twenty of them.

Here’s what I found. Four were the same two channels posting near-identical “free alternative” videos, every one pointing at the same affiliate link. Most of the rest were feature tables. Kartra has this, Vendasta has that, here’s a bonus stack worth $7,280.

Not one of them asked the question that actually decides it.

Seriously.

A feature table tells you what a tool CAN do. It never tells you what you’re going to use. And you pay for the whole platform either way.

So let’s do this differently. One question first, then the money, then a test that has nothing to do with software at all.

Do You Actually Need the Telecom?

This is the question. Everything else is downstream of it.

GoHighLevel has a phone system and an SMS system built into the platform. Not bolted on through a third party - built in, with the numbers, the call routing and the texting living in the same place as your funnels and your contacts.

That is what you are buying. Kartra bundles SMS at a flat rate, which we will get to, but the phone side - real numbers, real call routing - is GoHighLevel on its own among these four.

So answer honestly: in the last 30 days, did you send a business text message or make a business phone call that needed to be tracked in a CRM?

If the answer is no, the alternatives conversation gets very short. You’ve been shopping for a truck because you liked the dashboard.

Happens constantly.

If the answer is yes, and it’s central to how you follow up - appointment reminders, missed-call text-back, a sales team working a list - then most of the “alternatives” on those YouTube lists aren’t alternatives. They’re different products.

What the telecom actually costs

Worth knowing before you decide you need it. These rates come straight off the LC Phone System billing guide HighLevel publishes itself, last updated on the first of September, 2026:

Item Rate
SMS, outbound or inbound $0.00747 per segment
MMS, outbound $0.0220 per segment
Local phone number $1.15 per month
Toll-free number $2.15 per month
Outbound call $0.0166 per minute
Inbound call $0.01165 per minute

Add US A2P 10DLC registration on top, which is a carrier rule and not a HighLevel rule: $24.50 for a sole proprietor, then $2 to $10 a month in campaign fees, plus carrier pass-through on every segment.

Call it a penny a text, all in.

Doesn’t sound like much.

Until you look at what it does to the bill at volume.

What the GoHighLevel bill is made of, by texting volume Stacked bar chart of a monthly GoHighLevel bill on the $97 Starter tier with one local number and sole proprietor A2P registration, at four texting volumes. The $97 subscription is fixed in every bar. Metered telecom is $13.15 at 1,000 texts a month for a $110.15 total, $53.15 at 5,000 texts for $150.15, $103.15 at 10,000 texts for $200.15, and $203.15 at 20,000 texts for $300.15. Around 9,400 texts a month the metered telecom line passes the subscription itself, so more than half the bill is usage. Calculated from HighLevel published rates read 13 September 2026. The same figures appear in the rate table above this chart. 1,000 texts Subscription $97.00 Metered telecom $13.15 $110.15 5,000 texts Subscription $97.00 Metered telecom $53.15 $150.15 10,000 texts Subscription $97.00 Metered telecom $103.15 $200.15 20,000 texts Subscription $97.00 Metered telecom $203.15 $300.15 $97 subscription, fixed Metered telecom, moves with you Starter tier, one local number, sole proprietor A2P, at roughly a penny a text all in. Source: HighLevel LC Phone and A2P rates, read 13 September 2026. Arithmetic, not a quote.

That’s the part the rate card can’t show you. The ninety-seven never moves. The other bar does, and somewhere around nine thousand four hundred texts a month it passes the subscription entirely - so more than half of what you’re paying is usage you didn’t see on the pricing page.

Send a thousand a month and it’s noise. Send twenty thousand and the telecom IS the bill.

Credit where it’s due - HighLevel says it doesn’t mark up the telecom, the rates match Twilio’s, and they publish the whole breakdown. That’s more than most companies do. I went through the full arithmetic in the GoHighLevel pricing breakdown.

The point here isn’t that it’s expensive. It’s that you’re paying for it whether you use it or not.

GoHighLevel Alternatives Compared: What Each One Costs

Four platforms people actually cross-shop against GoHighLevel. Read this table knowing I’m paid by two of the four - GoHighLevel and systeme.io - and by neither Kartra nor ClickFunnels. Prices taken off each vendor’s own pricing page, GoHighLevel 13 September 2026 and the other three on 14 September 2026.

GoHighLevel systeme.io Kartra ClickFunnels
Entry price $97/mo $0 $59/mo $97/mo
Top published tier $497/mo $97/mo $549/mo $297/mo
Free plan No, 14-day trial Yes, 2,000 contacts No, 14-day trial No, 14-day trial
Built-in SMS Yes, usage-billed No Yes, bundled No
Built-in phone calls Yes, usage-billed No No No
Metered usage on top Yes, prepaid wallet No No, flat rate No
Sub-accounts 3 to unlimited No 5 to 10 team seats 1 to 20 workspaces
Resell under your brand Yes, Agency Pro No Not published Not published
Transaction fees None 0% every tier 5% on entry tier None

A few of those rows deserve a second look, because they’re the ones that break the tidy story.

Kartra is the cheapest door and it isn’t close - $59 against $97. But look one row down. Kartra’s entry tier holds 500 contacts, and there’s a 5% transaction fee on your sales charged above the monthly. Do $4,000 in sales and that cut works out to $200 - more than the $59 you thought you were paying. The sticker price is not the price.

Kartra also has SMS, bundled into a shared 10,000 email-and-text allowance, flat rate, no usage billing. Their own FAQ says “there are never any extra fees.” What it does NOT have is phone numbers or calling. So if your follow-up is texting only, Kartra genuinely answers the telecom question at a lower price than GoHighLevel. If it involves a phone ringing, it doesn’t answer it at all.

ClickFunnels has sub-accounts too, called Workspaces - one on Launch, up to twenty on the top tier. I’d assumed sub-accounts were GoHighLevel’s alone when I started writing this. They’re not. What ClickFunnels doesn’t publish is white-label reselling, which is the part that lets an agency mark the platform up and bill it on.

And systeme.io is the only free door in the building. Every other one here hands you fourteen days and then asks for a card.

Not a trial. A tier.

Now look at the top two rows together.

GoHighLevel STARTS at $97 a month. systeme.io TOPS OUT at $97 a month. Same number, opposite ends of the ladder.

That’s not a small difference.

For one of them, $97 is where the bill begins. For the other, it’s where the bill stops.

Where GoHighLevel genuinely wins

I’m not going to pretend the cheap one wins everywhere, because it doesn’t.

Sub-accounts. A sub-account is a walled-off copy of the entire platform - separate login, separate pages, separate campaigns, separate phone. That’s how an agency gives twelve clients twelve systems and none of them see each other. systeme.io has no equivalent. None.

Rebilling. Agency Pro at $497 lets you put your own brand on it and add a markup to what clients pay for their own texting. Done right, their telecom bill covers your subscription. No $30 tool on the market pulls that off.

The phone system. Covered above. It’s real and it’s built in.

No argument from me.

If you’re running marketing for other people, those three rows are the entire reason the product exists and you should probably buy it.

Where systeme.io genuinely wins

The free tier is a tier, not a trial. Two thousand contacts. Three funnels. A course. No card on file and no expiry date attached to any of it. You can run a real business on that. I wrote the full systeme.io review including the parts that annoy me.

The ceiling is $97. Unlimited everything at the top, which is where the other platform starts.

No metered wallet. Your bill is your bill. It doesn’t move because you had a good month and sent more email.

The 8-Point Test That Has Nothing To Do With Software

Here’s where I think every alternatives article goes wrong, including the ones that get the pricing right.

They compare tools. Nobody ever asks what the tool is supposed to be feeding.

When we built The Proven Path, we studied 32 producers earning $100,000 a year or more - 14 network marketers and 18 affiliate marketers - and looked for what they had in common. Not what they sold. What they DID.

Eight things came back. Here they are, with how often each showed up across all 32:

What the producers did How many did it
Built a personal brand under their own name 100%
Mastered one channel before adding a second 91%
Built an owned email list 88%
Published on a fixed daily or weekly rhythm 84%
Ran a funnel with a free lead magnet 78%
Held a daily conversation quota 69%
Took 6 to 24 months to meaningful income 66%
Relied on paid ads 22%

Where a producer’s practice couldn’t be established from a primary source, they were counted as NOT doing it. So those figures are conservative.

Read the last row twice. Only 22% relied on paid ads, which is roughly the opposite of what the advertising about this industry implies.

Now here’s the part that matters for this article.

Go back up that list and ask which rows need GoHighLevel.

A personal brand under your own name? That’s you on camera. No software. One channel mastered first? That’s a phone and a rhythm. An email list? Any autoresponder on earth, including the free one. A funnel with a lead magnet? Two pages. A daily conversation quota? That’s DMs and a calendar.

Six of the eight need no platform at all. The seventh, the funnel, needs two pages that systeme.io builds free.

The eighth is time, and nothing you can buy shortens it.

Nothing.

That’s not an argument against GoHighLevel. It’s an argument against buying either one before you know which row you’re stuck on.

Which One Should You Start With?

Straight answer, and this is the part that costs me money.

Buy GoHighLevel if you’re marketing for other people. Agencies, consultants, anybody running three or more separate businesses inside one login. Sub-accounts are the product and rebilling changes the arithmetic.

Buy GoHighLevel if your business genuinely runs on calls and texts. Appointment-heavy, sales-team-heavy, follow-up-by-phone businesses. The consolidation is worth real money if you live in it daily.

Start with systeme.io’s free plan if you’re one person with one offer. You need a funnel, a list and somewhere to put a course. That’s the free tier. Pay nothing until 2,000 contacts stops being enough, and by then you’ll know what you actually need.

Look at Kartra if you text but never call, and you’re not selling much yet. Flat-rate SMS at $59 with no metered wallet is a genuinely different answer to the telecom question. Just run the 5% against your actual sales first - at $4,000 a month that fee is $200, and the cheap door stops being the cheap door.

Look at ClickFunnels if you want the ecosystem and the sub-accounts without the phone bill. Workspaces give you up to twenty, and the course-and-community world around it is the biggest of the four. It starts where GoHighLevel starts, though, and $1,164 a year comes out of your pocket before your first sale does.

Buy none of them if you haven’t made a sale yet. I’ve seen folks burn twelve months perfecting automations nobody ever received, for an offer nobody ever bought. Software didn’t do that to them. What it did was hand them something that LOOKED like progress every time they sat down, which is the more expensive trap of the two.

You don’t buy a commercial log splitter to get through one winter’s firewood. Not because it’s a bad machine - because you’ll spend the season learning its hydraulics instead of stacking wood.

The machine was never the problem. The woodpile was.

Use AI To Figure Out What You Actually Need

Don’t take my word for any of this. You’ve got an AI assistant sitting right there - make it do the boring part.

Here’s the prompt I’d run first. Paste it into Claude, ChatGPT, whatever you use:

Prompt
Act as a skeptical marketing operations consultant. I am deciding whether I need an all-in-one platform like GoHighLevel or a simpler funnel and email tool. Ask me these questions ONE AT A TIME, waiting for my answer before asking the next: (1) How many separate businesses do I need to run inside one login? (2) In the last 30 days, how many business text messages did I send? (3) In the last 30 days, how many sales calls did I make or receive? (4) Do I bill clients for their own marketing costs? (5) How many email subscribers do I have right now? (6) Have I made a sale online in the last 90 days? After my last answer, tell me plainly which of these three I am: (a) an agency that needs sub-accounts and built-in telecom, (b) a solo operator who needs funnels and email only, or (c) someone who has not yet validated an offer and should not buy either one. Do not flatter me. If my answers say (c), say (c).

That last line matters.

Ask a model to help you justify a purchase and it usually will.

Then run this one to size the telecom before you commit:

Prompt
I send roughly [N] business text messages a month and use [N] phone numbers. Using these published rates - SMS $0.00747 per segment outbound and inbound, local number $1.15 per month, A2P registration $24.50 one time for a sole proprietor, campaign fees $2 to $10 per month, and carrier pass-through of $0.003 to $0.005 per outbound segment - calculate my month one cost and my ongoing monthly cost. Show the arithmetic line by line. Then tell me how high my texting volume would have to go before a $97 per month subscription with metered usage costs me more than a $97 per month subscription with no usage billing at all.

Run those two and you’ll know more about your own situation than any alternatives listicle can tell you.

Make sense?

Where This Comparison Falls Short

Here’s what I can’t tell you.

I’ve never run an agency on this platform. Rate cards I can read. What I can’t give you is the operator’s view - whether the thing holds up at twenty sub-accounts, what support is like when something breaks at 9pm, where it starts to groan. Anybody billing clients on it daily knows all of that better than I do, and their complaints should outrank my arithmetic.

I’ve only RUN one of the four. The table above is honest about price because those numbers come off the vendors’ own pages. It cannot tell you how any of them feel at month eight. systeme.io I use daily with my own money in it. GoHighLevel, Kartra and ClickFunnels I have read, not lived in, and reading a pricing page is not the same as running a business on the thing.

And four is not the field. Vendasta, Keap, Ontraport, Builderall and a dozen more are real products with real users I’ve left out entirely. I picked the three people actually cross-shop against GoHighLevel most often. If your shortlist has a name that isn’t here, this page hasn’t answered your question.

The 8 points are a study, not a prescription. Those 32 producers are historical results belonging to named people, several self-reported, achieved in market conditions that no longer exactly exist. They tell you what winners had in common. They do not tell you what will happen to you. The typical outcome in this industry is that most people never make meaningful money at all, and that number belongs right here next to the other one.

Rates move. Everything here was read 13 and 14 September 2026. Carrier fees in particular change quietly.

And both companies pay me. Whichever way you jump, I get something out of it. That’s worth holding onto while you read the recommendation.

Prefer a read where nobody earns anything either way? Over on Opportunity Grade the company comes out at a B minus, on a page with zero affiliate links anywhere in it. That site is also mine, so call it what it is - still my opinion. The difference is that clicking it pays me nothing.

What To Do This Week

Three things. You can finish all of them today.

One. Do the login count. On paper, list every distinct business that has to live behind its own walled-off login. Landed on one? Walk away from the agency tier. Landed on four or more? Now we’re talking.

Two. Run the telecom prompt above. Take last month’s text volume and multiply by a penny. Whatever lands on the page is your true metered cost. You’ll know immediately whether you can live with it.

Three. Find your stuck row. Go back to the 8-point table and put a check beside the ones you’re already doing. The first unchecked row is your actual problem, and there’s a good chance no software on this page fixes it.

That third one is free, takes four minutes, and is worth more than either subscription.

Bless and be blessed,

Rob Fore

GoHighLevel Alternatives FAQs

What is the best GoHighLevel alternative?

It depends on the telecom. Only GoHighLevel offers built-in calling. Kartra bundles SMS flat-rate from $59 but has no phone. systeme.io covers funnels, email and courses from $0 with no telecom at all.

Is there a free GoHighLevel alternative?

systeme.io has a free tier, not a free trial: 2,000 contacts, three funnels and one course with no card and no expiry, read on their pricing page 14 September 2026. It has no sub-accounts and no built-in telecom.

Why is GoHighLevel so expensive?

The subscription is $97, $297 or $497, but phone, SMS and email bill separately through a prepaid wallet on every tier. You are paying for client sub-accounts and a built-in phone system. If you use neither, you are buying an agency tool to use a fraction of it.

Do I need GoHighLevel if I run one business?

Usually not. The cheapest tier caps you at three sub-accounts and sub-accounts are the feature you are paying for. One person running one offer typically needs a funnel, an email list and somewhere to put a course.

Can systeme.io send text messages?

No. systeme.io has no built-in phone or SMS, and neither does ClickFunnels. Kartra bundles SMS into a shared email and text allowance at a flat rate. Only GoHighLevel adds phone numbers and calling on top.

What should I look for in a marketing platform?

Start with the marketing system rather than the software. Across 32 producers studied for The Proven Path, every one built a personal brand, 88% built an owned email list and only 22% relied on paid ads. Buy the tool that serves that, not the one with the longest feature list.
